Young Adults Living with Their Parents
In Poland 39% of unmarried people aged 25–34 live with their parents. The percentage now is higher than in 2005 and 2017, when CBOS previously looked at this issue. The figures then were 29% and 34% respectively. A decided majority of this group of people are in work (83%) and financially independent of their parents (72%).
The main reasons given for remaining in the parental home concerned: not having their own home (51%), lower living costs (42%), insufficient income (39%) and good living conditions at their parents’ place (48%). However, men and women tended to give different reasons. More men than women gave insufficient income as the reason (44% compared to 33%) and not having a family of their own (40% compared to 20%). On the other hand, women were more likely to indicate parental support in everyday chores (35% as against 11% men), emotional attachment (28% as against 16%) and parents needing help (20% as against 10%).
Young adults who live with their parents more often see this as a choice and not a necessity.

More on this subject in the CBOS report.
The data were collected from two studies and combined. The first study – 'How We Live' – was conducted using the CBOS research panel on a sample of Polish residents aged 25–34. Respondents registered in the panel completed the online questionnaire themselves (CAWI method). The survey was carried out between 8 – 15 September 2025, on a sample of 216 individuals. The second study – ‘Current Events and Problems’ survey (425) was conducted using a mixed-mode procedure on a representative sample of named adult residents of Poland, randomly selected from the National Identity Number (PESEL) register. Respondents independently selected one of the following methods: Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI); Computer Assisted Telephone Interview (CATI), respondents receiving researchers’ telephone numbers in an introductory letter from CBOS; Computer Assisted Web Interview (CAWI), where respondents filled in the online questionnaire independently, gaining access by means of a login and password provided in an introductory letter from CBOS. In all three cases the questionnaire had the same structure and comprised the same questions. The survey was carried out between 11 – 22 September 2025 inclusive on a sample of 969 people (65.4% using the CAPI method, 22.1% CATI and 12.5% CAWI). CBOS has been conducting statutory research using the above procedure since May 2020, stating in each case the percentage of personal, telephone and internet interviews.
